It was terrorism. It was a wake up call. They brought it here, and they brought it in a big way.
People who typically use lower tech means to scare the population struck in such a manner that you couldnt help but stand there and stare at the screen and ask yourself if you are actually seeing what you are seeing. I dont know about you, but I stood in front my tv the first time I saw than and I got fucking ill to my stomach. It was brutal and absolute genius in its exploitation of our weaknesses.
Im not saying it was right, I am saying it achieved its goal.
it was terrorism. They knew what it would bring.
And if you think we are effectively crushing it right now, I think we are all going to be pleasantly surpised in the near future.
And to begin to even debate the theological background of this conflict would take volumes.

Simply put. To many miltant Muslims, yes they are. And since we back them, we are either indirectly or directly responsible as well.
The USA likes targets like the Taliban, Iraq, Iran... they are sitting in one spot waiting. Its an easy victory. 3 men with a suitcase nuke are not. And thats who we are fighting.
