I don't think the cops acted in the best way in this situation. The death of that girl surely could have been avoided. This was not a some shootout that lasted 5 minutes. Cops arrived at the scene shortly before 4 pm and the article on CNN says they were killed at about 6.30 pm.
Now, i'm no police expert, but i'm am
pretty sure the LAPD could muster up a police sniper within 2.5 hours. What do you think? Hell, the girl might have died anyways even with a sniper, but in a situation like this, every precaution should be taken to prevent the loss of an innocent life.
It's not like shots were constantly being fired for that 2.5 hour period. Surely they had enough time during the phone call to put a sniper into a reasonable position to take this guy out.
Beyond that... Beanbag rounds, tranquilizers.. Fuck, anything is better than 11 cops firing 90 rounds with a toddler in the line of fire.
I don't see how anyone can think that the LAPD handled this situation well.
