Even if this is true, and I'm not jumping to any conclusions on that score, WHY was Wilson's wife even a point of interest for Rove? From what I understand, she suggested Wilson for the assignment, but someone higher up the ladder made the final decision. Wilson was certainly qualified for this sort of mission, no?
It appears that Rove (and let me put on my tin foil hat and suggest this goes higher than him) was simply out to discredit Joe Wilson FOR TELLING THE TRUTH, a truth the administration didn't want people to hear. He couldn't attack the message so he attacked the messenger. When that didn't work, he went after the messenger's family.
Even if he broke no laws, what he did was morally reprehensible. I don't think there's any question that the blowing of Valerie Plame's cover is a national security issue. At the least, it would mean one less agent in the field, the shell company that she "worked" for scuttled, and all of the assets working with her potentially compromised.
