with Direct-X having control of your hardware, a screeshot doesn't actually see anything, so you just get a black window, right? You can try going into your video settings (right-click on your desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting), and turn your hardware acceleration all the way down to none, and then trying doing a screenshot again. I can't remember whether this actually works or not. You can obviously set your hardware acceleration back to full when you are done.
Another way to do it, is you can open the video in an editing program (like Adobe Premiere, for example), and use File, Export Frame, and choose a bitmap image.
