Thank you!

It seems a tiny, inconsequential thing. But consider that this thread - merely a few words from an otherwise unobtrusive scribe - succeeded in accomplishing what it set out to do. Your words are a small victory for me.

Now that the term is called what it is, what next?

Having everyone hold hands around the country, or shout out "CE is not related to porn" at the same time on the same day, would be action, and would have focus.

'Child Exploitation' ("CE") is a more digestable phrase...

which is one of the reasons why ASACP changed its name to Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection..... in order to keep the acronym the same..

so what happens next? will the self-use of the phrase "child exploitation" help to paint the adult biz in a different light?

understand that i get involved in things to make a difference, so my whole point is to do something, not just talk. i think your discussion points help to bring awareness, but you lack a direction to harness that energy, and negate the good work that organizations like ASACP and FSC to do promote the industry in a better light.
Fight the CE!
Thank you. But, how does this thread or the changing of a commonly accepted, if misleading, term negate the work done by ASACP or FSC? I admire/respect both organizations for the fundamental work they struggle to achieve. Drama and politics aside, I applaud their objectives and apply my support when and where I can. (See the x number of articles written by me re: ASACP and FSC on YNOT, or just ask Joan or Tom.)

If anything, I'd take the opportunity to stand next to Joan and tell Oprah to tell the world to start calling it otherwise.

But regardless of whether Oprah hears us or not, we still have the power to affect change in our little corner of the world... which then ripples outward.

We have media outlets of our own. We have the power of a large group of commonly-minded people who feel strongly against the exploitation of children and who despise the association of our industry with such illegal/immoral/unconscionable acts.

We have a voice.

Let's use it.

Here is my plan, FTP.. to actualise a change in our lexicon.

It requires nothing more than a start, a nudge, a push in the right direction. Because once a word (or phrase) gets used and picked up enough times, it becomes by default the new "catch-phrase".

So when you're out and talking about what you do with ASCAP, go ahead and say the words child exploitation and spread that phrase around. And encourage others - everyone - to do the same...
