There is a part of this story that many of you are missing.

Two reporters were threatened with jail time to reveal sources. In the end this is a bad thing imo as we demonstrate to the world that it is ok to jail reporters when you want them to tell you everything they know. This type of action is something I expect of totalitarian regimes, not the USA.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Rove and the Bush Admin squirm about this, but I am not convinced that Time magazine of all news organizations caving and giving over information to the Feds is a good thing at all.

One interesting fact that puzzles me is that the male reporter in this case, Matthew Cooper, has said that he only revealed information when his source gave him the go ahead. If this is indeed Rove who did this, it makes me wonder why Rove greenlighted such disclosure. I would have thought that instead he would have arranged for a payoff to those two to keep them quiet.

If Cooper is telling the truth and Rove told him it was ok to sing, this gives me great reservations that there will be enough evidence to prosecute Rove. Rove is a brilliant man and I find it hard to believe he would have greenlighted Cooper's testimony unless the Rove team believed it would do him no damage in the end.
