First of all it varies per individual, everyone has a different metabolic rate. My nephews can stuff their faces 24/7 with EVERYTHING you can imagine and they still look athletic... if I do that I'll blow up like a friggin' balloon.
Aside from that eating healthy WILL advance physique in combination with training. It's not about eating less, it's about eating more often and nutritious.
Your advice might be reasonable for the average fat webmaster but anyone serious about weightloss should not listen to you.
