The basis of having a girlfriend who actually wants to be with you for the good and the bad is a friendship and a level of mutual attraction. Maybe in some men's minds they can ignore the fact that the girl on their arm wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire if they didn't pay them for their company.
I wouldn't know what it was like to have sex with someone who was completely unattracted to me, and hopefully I never will. To me, that's abhorrent.
