I have been looking at this for months. Google around once in a while you find a satisfied satellite user, but its the exception. They are so oversold that the service is bad, most of the time, from the reviews I am reading, and the FAP (fair access policy) reduces you to 28K if you actually get lucky and download 100 megs or 2.
Wildblue might suffer the same fate, if it works at all. They claim to have multiple beams and a second satellite ready to launch, but you still are putting 10's of thousands of customers down a single pipe, we'll have to wait and see. The technology is so much more advanced than directway or starband that both should go out of business within a short period, should wild blue be sucessful.
I'm going to wait a few months, and if wildblue does not deliver, go with a commercial service like vsat systems - $499 a month for 512/256 connection and about 5K install. Pricey, but thats currently the only option.
