No, weed has never been proven to be a gateway drug. There's alot of misconceptions about the plant, it's all government/christian propoganda.
IMO, the only reason weed seems to lead into other drugs is because of the source. You get weed usually from someone who also sells coke and various other drugs. It's common for them to offer you free samples of other drugs, hoping that you like what you recieve and buy some.
It's similar to grocery shopping. I go to the grocery store for milk and bread, but I always end up buying at least 1 new product. Why? Because it's from the same source as my usual routine. When someone advertises and pushes a product there's going to be impulse buyers on the spot.
Take weed out of the hands of the drug dealers and you won't have that problem.
