I worked there during their hey-day. While an employee they introduced the Big Mac, apple pies, and the filet-o-fish sandwich.

They also went from using fresh potatoes for their french fries, to using boxed, frozen fries. I am sure it saved them money, but the quality on the fries dropped significantly. Back then McD's was known for 2 things: the best french fries around, and the ability to get a burger, fries and a Coke for under $1.00
