Free signup (w/credit card) is still FREE signup if they don't charge you anything.
Hell a Free email signup I can convert about 100:1 to one of your PAID signups. I personally convert 4:1 with FREE signups (w/credit card if that makes you feel better) compared to a PAID signup. Yes, people are 4x more likely to use the card if they know they will not be charged, then they will if they know they are going to spend $20+.
Ifriends has chathost with ten(s) of models online at one time? Are you sure about that. They might have a few who have 5+ sessions open but i seriously doubt they have Ten(s) like you say.
you want a side by side, its easy to get unique number of chathost on ifriends, it's the "Show unique names mode", when you turn that on, you get unique models not multiple sessions shown. FYI, its about half the number of live sessions.
I just counted (with unique view on) Ifriends: 1097 total chathost.
Imlive: 513 (assuming every single one of your models only has 1 session)

So your not about upsell. Upsell means additional features. which equals making the customer happy by offering them several ways for them to enjpy the experience even more. it also means additional revenue.
