Hippies in Oregon keep them as pets. Visit Eugene and sniff around for the stench of a somewhat unwashed dirty smell cleverly covered with the foul stench of picholloi oil. Follow that person or persons at a safe distance.... they will lead you to a spotted owl sooner or later. Watch out for drum circles.
