APN will not be purchasing .xxx equivalents of its domains. Who is with us?
Unless we're eventually required to by law, APN will not purchase the .xxx equivalent of any of our sites or our affiliate program.
The quickest way to fend off this attack is by using our wallets. We'll see how much a company with a burn rate of $3,000,000 a year is willing to continue operations when they only get a handful of registrations. Want to stop the forced migration to .xxx? Then don't buy one!
Am I being too idealistic? Perhaps. Some of you will go and register .xxx domains, thinking you've struck gold. Of course, you'll soon find those domains to be useless, as search engines, colleges, companies, and parents effectively block 99% of your traffic. Surfers will have as much incentive to type in "domain.xxx" as they will "domain.biz" or "domain.info" (which aren't blocked). ICM may get a few sales the first year, but once those domain owners figure it out, they won't renew.
There is absolutely no reason to register your .xxx domains! You won't get traffic from it. No one else will get traffic from it.
Of course, anyone trying to register/cybersquat our domains for commercial gain will be met with swift legal action. We have very specific and non-generic site names which we will succesfully prevent any one from using due to our trademark rights on those names. I will also hit you extra hard because you gave ICM money. No cease and desist letter, just a very very expensive lawsuit. Consider that computer you're typing on property of APN.
So who here will share in our stand? Or are you going to register your .xxx domains and contribute to what will become the downfall of this industry?
