You do owe him an appology. It's one thing to have a difference of opinion but to make a public spectacle out of him? Come on man. "I don't agree with you so you're wrong and I'll make sure everyone knows you're wrong"... basically what happened here. How old are you?
He should appologize as well for threats of physical harm.. no words are cause for such results.
