The idea of giving bands a resource to sell their digital music online (even if they have to send surfers from their own website) seems so simple.

I'll go back to that episode of the Apprentice where one team made meatball pizza. I immediately figured you generally don't see the big pizza makers offering such an obvious pizza since it's probably failed in the past. That ended up being correct.

The fact is that you'd be in direct competition with a premiere site like PureVolume.com. You will make people pay for what they offer totally free.

Plus your target market would be the teen to college demo. They simply aren't going to pay for garage band music, which is what you'd attract.

Unless you can ink deals with some serious up and coming bands (such as Warped Tour bands for instance) to sell their material on there, I don't see this site still being live by the end of the year.
