The 80's sound is huge right now, from the Killers to Gwen Stefani, who are totally capitalizing on the resurgence of that decade.

BUT... I have to disagree with you that this is even an 80's song, as it takes inspiration from the best of what we like from every decade. Someone else told me today that it sounds just like NIN (which I also disagree with but Trent is definitely a current artist)

Yes, the verse section is inspired by In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins - we wanted that same type of vibe but we made it sound darker and more industrial. That's one of the only parts that I think you could say sounds 80s retro.

Drums throughout the song are an industrial kit AND an acoustic kit playing complimentary parts which gives it a really original and massive sound. I guess you could say the drums are more inspired by industrial 90s and current bands like NIN.

Vocals are my own style, but in this particular song in some places I emulated Jim Morrison, who was most popular in the 60s.

The guitars in some parts are inspired by Floyd (70s artist) and in others are inspired by aggro nu metal style (totally current).

Basically what I'm saying is we draw from every decade for our sound, and are not afraid to do so; which I guess is unusual in the music industry today, as most artists TRY to have a certain label applied to them, so that they can be easily classifiable by the general public.

The best bands, and some of our favorite influences, like The Mars Volta, MUSE, U2, APC, SOAD, draw influences from the entire history of music, not just the last 5 minutes.
