I agree. I'm having a hard time believing any "professional" or "venture capitalist" would even consider running an Internet contest that could and would determine their "corporate image".
If you buy a new BMW for $40k, you're damn well willing to spend another $1-2k for a couple extra features. If you spend millions on a domain in hopes of creating a brandable mainstream image, you spend a couple extra bucks for a good, proper logo.
