The sponsors may put on a show to try and please people reporting them, but if I get another solicitation the repeat offence will be reported to the FTC, and they do follow up and take care of it once they receive enough complaints.

And regarding "WTF is legitimate", The spam messages I report are the ones that are not compliant with can-spam, and therfore are illegal. The can-spam compliant ones don't bother me, my filter gets them and I never see them.

I get the impression that alot of people here make their living off spam... I don't care how much you make doing it, if you have to resort to spamming people to generate traffic you're still a bottom feeder.
