SEATTLE - Internet Entertainment Group owner Seth Warshavsky surrendered to U.S. marshals here on May 14. The surrender came just one day after a federal magistrate judge issued a warrant for Warshavsky's arrest for failure to appear in a civil case against IEG.
Internet company Netsphere filed the case, claiming that IEG owes it $180,000 for subscriber referrals to its Web porn service. When Warshavsky did not respond to the complaint, a judge issued a default judgment against IEG and ordered Warshavsky to attend a collection hearing on May 13. The warrant for Warshavsky's arrest was issued when he failed to appear and failed to produce five years of business records for his Seattle-based company, reported the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Warshavsky previously denied that he had been served with the court oorder. But Larry Glosser, a lawyer for Netsphere, said that courier records indicated that Warshavsky was served with the order.
Warshavsky has since been released on bond, but the magistrate warned him that he must appear at future proceedings or face additional sanctions. According to his attorney, Gilbert Levy, Warshavsky, "certainly got the message from the court," following his arrest.
IEG is best-known for its video Pam & Tommy Lee: Hardcore & Uncensored, which won the 1998 AVN Awards for Best-Renting Tape of the Year and Best-Selling Tape of the Year. The video is no longer available for sale. IEG is also well-known for its Website, clublove.com.
