The question is when it comes to a surfer being able to jack-off to a gallery does design matter? The answer is no. In fact if your gallery takes to long to load he leave and go to another.

A good % of porn surfers still are on dial-up. I'm on 3Mbps cable which typically runs at 2.7 Mbps and some of these galleries take a few seconds to load for me. I can imagine how long that would take using dial-up.
