I'm 100% with Jay on this issue. Why are politicians so uptight about nudity/pornography and so careless when it comes to much more offending content? Is it because pornography is more prevalent or because it's harder to discuss their sexuality with their own kids than it is with drug abuse and murder? There's alot of content I'd like to ban off the net too, but segregating content isn't the solution, nor is it anywhere near foolproof. You can't censor the world or expect everyone to follow this expectation just because the U.S. says so!
It would also have serious business implications too. Imagine the ability for Microsoft to hide .xxx domains by default as 'Content Protection' for its customers? Or to block spam with .xxx domains in it? And how does this protect children for parents who don't know how to use the computer in the first place? Isn't this the reason that Content Protection (like RSAC rating protection in most web browsers) software isn't effective?
Politicians love this because they can say 'they voted against porn' and 'I helped stop child porn' (because we all know ALL porn is child porn right?). Yes, .XXX is a bunch of bullshit.
