actually that happened at least once. check out the movie Escape from Sobibor

you are way off though calling them cowards and quitters. I bet most there never gave up hope of being resucued. fighting back was always on their minds but what do you expect them to do when all they have are sticks and stones, and the gaurds have machine guns? for every gaurd killed, 50 jews died in their place. even if you were to fight back you wouldnt be much use after not eating for 9 weeks. making plans of an excape would have been nearly impossible to keep with trustees bunking with you. these trustees were traitor jews who were rewarded for turning in one of his own country men, towns people and even friend.
