It was shot on a low budget, and it was fan reaction that created the great word of mouth that it deserved. Films like MDB just aren't made very often. It certainly deserved Best Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor that it recieved.

All of the hype, including word of mouth and the awards it won was overhype for me. It was an above average film, but it mostly relied on cheap tricks to make it a tear jerker.
