Best Buy pushes their extended warranties like crazy. They are the most aggressive of any of the chains.
When I bought a PSP for my son and told the clerk I didn't need or want the extended plan she went into this rude fit about it like I was stupid not to pay the extra money. I wouldn't budge and she called the manager who started to pitch me even harder saying Sony products always come back with problems and all this other BS. I've been buying Sony products for decades and have never had a problem with any.
Then he went into the same dead pixel pitch. So I think they're all using this tactic to scare people into the warranty deal. Its BS. Don't fall for it.
