"netscape" the browser is long dead. mozilla is a new entity and is attempting to challenge a monopoly in ways not previously possible. For instance, as part of microsofts settlement a few months ago, pc manufacturers can't be punished for including rival browsers with their OS, even if they're set as the primary browser. its almost a certainty AOL will use mozilla for all of their subscribers soon, boom 30 million people using mozilla.
what happens when aol starts releasing aol instant message specific toolbars and plugins for mozilla on top of that? how many other isps do you think will also give out preconfigured mozilla as part of their new user package?

because of the nature of MSIE being completely proprietary and hardly extendable, mozilla will most likely become the browser of choice for the majority of web enabled 'appliances'. when joe blow dipshit gets used to using netscape on his playstation, his palmpilot, and airport terminals etc, it may become preferably or advantageous for him to remain consistant with his pc's browser also.

the part that sucks for us is it's annoying to have to support 2 browsers, but that should be preferably to any reasonable person over giving a company like microsoft a complete monopoly, who achieved it so unethically and ILLEGALLY, because its convienant.
Nice post.

Competition is always good. EVERYONE should be happy IE has some sort of competition. I'm glad it does.

I think Mozilla being open source and independent will eventually allow it to take back the market from IE. Just look at Apache and Linux. Both open source and both kick MS's ass in their respective areas (webservers and OS's) as far as performance goes.

I see great things in the future from this and a product that eventually blows IE away.
