I just realized you live in Seattle according to your profile. YOU SHOULD KNOW what we deal with in Snohomish county. Or you just don't watch the news at all. The Sheriff's office here is so understaffed they did an expose on them in KING 5 news. Granted we don't have a gang problem like they do in Cali. But if there is one major problem we have in Washington State it is the drug problem. We both live in highly populated areas with major city problems. There is more of a police presence in Seattle, for sure though.
If you think for a second that you don't have these sort of problems in your city, you are sadly mistaken. We live in a less crime ridden area than say New York City or Los Angeles, but just look at the gun laws there. It practicly takes an act of Congress just to get permission to own a firearm. Take another look at Austrailia, where they confiscated all privately owned firearms. Guess what happened? Armed robbery skyrocketed cause it was easy to assume that almost everyone was like you, gunless.
If you feel like you are going to live your entire life without ever experiencing an act of violence, go right ahead. You just might. But why chance it, man? I hope no one depends on you to safeguard them at home though.
