I once had a female cop tell me that in a situation like that, if someone wants in, they will get in. She told me to stay quiet, and get my gun. And if you wind up shooting the guy, to make sure and drag him in your house if thats not where the shooting took place.
This was in New Orleans, and at the time we lived on the edge of a pretty bad neighborhood.
