You know - a guy I knew once was so drunk that when he went home he tried to go into the wrong house. He did the same thing and was banging on the front door and was hollering for someone to let him into the house. The cops came and arrested him for public drunkeness (which I suppose he deserved hehe)
Who's to say that the person at your front door wasn't some drunk idiot? If a burgular was trying to break into your house wouldn't the front door, which as you said was locked and deadbolted, not really be the preferred entrance but maybe a window or something else?
Just something to think about.
