Depending on what part an African-American originated from will depend on how protective their skin is from the sun. Darker the skin though the better the protection; I think the maximium for example / comparison is that the average black person has the equivilant to SPF 400 in their skin.

Of course as TDF mentioned, a higher % of black people get skin cancer most likely because they don't really need to worry about it, but still should care for their skin..
