If someone committed a crime they should serve the time. In the case of violent crime... ie rape, murder, whatever... They definitely deserve the time. People have free will, as they should, but they should also be prepared to deal with the repurcussion of their choices. These decisions are not moral based. You don't need something like a religion, for example, to tell you raping, killing, or even stealing is wrong. Those are pretty universal rules in just about any system anywhere in the world.
I'm sure we probably disagree at the point that life is formed in the womb. Sentient life and self awareness are much much later developmental stages than a first/second trimester. If that is the case I'll respectfully agree to disagree.
As an aside: What is your opinion on stem cell research? its 5 am and I'm bored and strung out from ineffectual sleeping pills so I don't mind asking or answering questions for the time being.
