Having an endless supply of the heads with transparent backgrounds (using the lasso tool) helps too. I've got about three different files that I use. A blue background (#0000FF) makes it easy to use for future photochops.
I do all of this in FireworksMX, not Photoshop, I find I can work much faster in that. This main file is saved appropriately as "TheyGaveMeHead.png".
