"Well buddy WTF did you think would happen when you voted for a Jesus freak, you fucking moron?"

It's unfortunate, but this country had a chance to get rid of Bush just a few months ago and blew it. Many of us tried to raise political issues on the boards and found many webmasters just not wanting to hear it. Some of us pointed to the history of the Republican party, and were told that we were just spreading fear. We all know the Democrats are spineless wimps, but at least they haven't historically sought this kind of absolute power, or regularly pissed on the First Amendment. Or held "porn hearings" stacked with crazy religious nut jobs that present made up "scientific evidence" about how porn is just as addicitve as crack cocaine. Clinton, who I'm not saying was perfect, at least left the industry alone and focused on child porn -- definitely the right thing to do.

And now, just a few months after an election, we're faced witha ll this 2257 bullshit, the new formation of an "obscenity task force," 1980's porn prosecutor Bruce Taylor back in the DOJ, and all hell about to break loose. It's pretty safe to say some well-intended people who just didn't have the means to figure out 2257, because they couldn't afford a lawyer or whatever, will be facing prison terms so that the Christian Right can read about it their newsletters and jerk off our industry's persecution. How unfortunate that so many people in THIS INDUSTRY who should have known better and should have understood that politics DO affect their lives were too caught up in the old BS line about how Republicans are for less government intervention in the lives of citizens and businesses. Do the new 2257 rules seem like less government or more? How about the obscenity task force that they just created? How about the "indecency" assault that TV and radio is facing, and the plans to target cable and sattelite next? Restrictions on gay marriage?

And all of this is just the start. Bush has 3.5 more years to fuck with the people of this country, with no worries about being re-elected this time. And while you'd like to THINK that people will eventually learn, I'll predict here and now that most people will see the next Republican candidate as "different," and actually entertain the thought that he or she (almost certainly a he, let's face it) will be different than Bush. I've heard people saying, "How could we know he was going to be this way?" Well fuck, I knew and was screaming it from the highest mountain for fucking MONTHS before he was elected. I even predicted the time we would invade Iraq more than a year before it happened, and I was off only by one month. Politicians are not hard to figure out. They seldom surprise us. A simple look at the people surrounding a politician tell us all we need to know. Who surrounded Bush? Well... oil companies, his father, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, to name a few. Fuck man, people from the NIXON administration. What did people THINK we were going to get with that crew? And even if they couldn't put two and two together from that, a quick look at his political history in Texas provided more than enough insight.

So yeah, I'm a bit frustrated. I don't rant on the boards much anymore... but damn it, just seven months ago we could have put a stop to all this 2257 bullshit and the upcoming porn offensive and everything else, but so many people were more worried about having to admit that the "liberals" were right about Bush, and chose avoiding that admission rather than doing the right thing. Now we find outselves in this mess with 3.5 more years to go and no guaruntee we'll get anything but another Republican when Bush's second term is finally up. And that's saying nothing about the Supreme Court situation and the expected vacancies. ARGH!!!

Okay, rant over.
