One must actually really follow the current and past research as well as keep very up to date on foriegn data to really understand this issue.
Like so many others it is very easy to get scientists to counter what other scientists say in order to push or halt an agenda. Keep in mind our Government still believes that global warming needs more study, and the tobacco companies were also able to debunk most all scientists with their own for decades. So just because some reports claim otherwise does not in no way even often resemble the truth.
Christian right wing republicans (not all republicans) desire to keep embryos from being used due soley on the religious angle and the scare tactics that it would lead to baby harvesting (more abortions).
Like it or not though stem cell research even at the embryo level will go on and move foward. The majority of this research though will either be done in other countries or in small well funded private labs in the US. At one point in time our country lead the world in such fields, but alas like many others the powers that be would rather ignore what made us prosper and try to return us to some utopian god fearing society that never exsisted in the first place.
I prefer to pretend that the average intelligence level on this board is higher than in the general population, therefore it's not necessary to 'prove' over and over what scientists and educated people take as a given. The question isn't whether embryotic stem cells are better or easier to produce than adult stem cells. They are. The question is whether the religious freaks are going to allow the scientists to do their job even if it offends the Almight Gawd.
