I really should just keep my mouth shut but what the hay, Aly asked for opinions

The original question was - Does AVN have a credibility issue?
The answer is simple, yes, and it's been that way since I came on the scene in 97

Can it be changed?
I think a lot of us would tend to think only if they blow up the old orifice, bulldoze it away to start fresh.
Aly, I admire your attempts at remodeling and I REALLY admire them for hiring you to try and change things, but all I see are bandaids being placed trying to cover broken bones. Until the powers that be realize AVN doesn't have a focused product, gameplan OR audience and take tremendous action in that arena, I don't see any phoenix rising from the ashes.

Go undercover and ask around on a number of boards what AVN stands for, and what its purpose is. I think you'll see a wide variety of answers - some may be shocking. When it comes to business, imho its important to focus on one thing and do it well. Trying to be a little bit of everything waters down quality on all fronts.

I'll give a quick example of common webmaster perceptions - a group of us were in Vegas for the shows in January 2 years ago. There was a bet of $5k put forward by one in the group saying he could predict 80% or more of the award winners before they were announced. Guess how many of us took him up on the bet .. none. Were his predictions correct .. of course.

Lee said its just business .. Lee there are good ways of doing business and there are not so good ways. It all comes down to a few simple things. Define what your product IS, define your target audiences' wants/needs, and define how you can present your product in good light to them so it'll attract more end-users.

As for the show in Miami, advertise on ceilings, floors, windows, napkins, spritz bottles, columns, elevators, escalators, restrooms (inside AND outside!) and even on toilet paper! Cmon now, when is enough dollar bleeding considered deadly?

If AVN wants to be known for Greed, then by all means they've succeeded and I offer cudos. If not, there is a serious battle to fight.

Aly, you know I luv ya and I wish you luck on this uphill endevour .. your tenacity will be your greatest tool at trying to fix things ;)
