for bitrates 24, 48, 96, 128?
The formula is as follows:
bit rate X # of listeners / 1000 = # of megabits / sec
Then to get the number of MB transfer you use the following forumula
( bit rate / 8 ) x # of listeners x 60 secs x 60 min = # of MegaBytes transferred per hour

For Example:
24kbps X 100 listeners = 2.4mbps or roughly 10MB of transfer per hour
128kbps X 100 listeners = 12.8mbps or 5.7GB of transfer per hour

24kbps X 5000 listeners = 120mbps or 54GB of transfer per hour
128kbps x 5000 listeners = 640mbps or 288GB of transfer per hour

To give you a rough idea, 10mbps is about $550
100mbps is about $4000

Now mbps allows you transfer this at full speed for the ENTIRE month with that price, and GB pricing starts at about $0.40/GB and goes down to about $0.15/GB

*In regards to your other question with having a server in 1 location and your computer in another, its really quite simple. You install winamp and configure it to send to a shoutcast server by using a simple plugin and pointing it to the IP address. Then winamp can be used to either play pre-recorded material or use line in to relay whatever is being played/heard to your server and then out to the rest of the world. Best of all shoutcast is free!
