As much as I'd like to tell you "get over it", I can so relate to the girlfriend thing. I was in my mid-20's and was seeing a nurse, was totally in love with her. She was an LPN, and wanted to go back to school to get her RN training. She went back to her home town to attend college, and of course..... met a guy. A few years later she ended up marrying that guy, and believe me I was messed up for a long time after the initial breakup.
The only thing I take issue with in your post is where you say "We had a perfect relationship"..... because YOU DIDN'T. Obviously there was something missing for her, otherwise she wouldn't be with some other guy.
The only thing that is remotely in the way of a solution I can tell you is this....
Time.
Time + a new girl (or two) + throw yourself into your work = retain sanity.
