The advertising budgets of the major players mean their ads are everywhere.. So I never see ads for smaller sites (the ones that convert), so it seams like sigs are the only way for them to get good exposure so people like me will know about them.

exposure... A program you find in someone's sig is not as likely to be as over-exposed as the main advertisers.
