Here's a scenerio for you.
From what I recall Bush & Kerry were NECK AND NECK in the poll results almost until the end, when Bush came out of NOWHERE with a HUGE lead.
Try and follow me for just a moment, and keep in mind that this is just a theory, and isn't based on anything other than my own paranoia.
We the People, know about the election process and poll results widely based on the mass media. Let's imagine for a moment that Rove had a group of people glued to their phones with a direct line into the head producer's office at most of the major networks during the election, and kept feeding them incorrect data from Poll results. "No sir, what they have been telling you is incorrect. We have received the OFFICIAL count only moments ago. The REAL numbers are _______. As a representative of the House, you would be in violation of National Security if you were to report anything other than the REAL numbers."
Now, imagine that for a moment. Let's say that a couple networks started reporting bogus info to the public. Other networks would start double checking their own figures, and eventually would check with someone who is connected to Rove's network, who would then feed them the bogus data... perpetuating the scheme.
Eventually, the bogus numbers would, in fact, become "REAL" if everyone believed it.... Bush celebrates his victory. Rove is employed for another 4 years to further along his private agenda.
Now, again, this is all based in my own paranoia, but I can see how something like this could easily happen.
