Gosh, there are so many correctable statements in this thread, I hardly know where to begin. So I won't at all. Instead, I'll answer Redrob's good question.
It's different because when Religion "speaks", that SPEECH is protected.
When
we speak, it's the "noise" of a Left-crazed Scum Lobby (on a good day).
On a bad day, it could win you a trip to Guantanamo.
This sort of thing:

?There?s more than one way to skin a cat, and there?s more than one way to take a black robe off the bench,? said Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council..."

...is nothing new. If there's
any important difference to observe here, it's the obvious absence of concern on the part of the people behind these supposedly "TREASONOUS", "INSURRECTIONIST" "plots".
You think a quote like the above gets in national print these days without an implicit permission from the speaker? There's no telling what Truth there is in this "story."
"Americans United for Separation of Church and State has provided the L.A. Times.." -- my God, that's laughable. Bueller, Bueller, Bueller...?
There's an old expression I'm going to pretend I once heard:
"If you want to know who's winning (or who thinks they're winning), don't look at the players on the field, look at the cheerleaders."
This is a press release about the conversations of cheerleaders.
