I'm just working on one right now that has more of a girly feel..
Wordpress, in my experience, limits how you can modify the template. CuteNews is much more versatile in that you can squeeze the blog into any portion of the index page you see fit, rather than taking up the entire index page as Wordpress does.
All my designs always validate HTML/CSS standards.
