First choices would be HDMI or DVI followed by componant. Most of the newer panel TV's have these connections so go for them if the DirecTV box supports them.

I have my LCD hooked up to a DVD recorder via the componant inputs and tuning regular TV through the recorder is much better than doing so through the coax input on the TV.
