I use something called Bitlbee - it is a IRC transport gateway for MSN/ICQ/Jabber. So IM contacts appear as if they were part of a irc-channel. And that channel is bigger than most of the normal IRC channels I am on.. I won't bother counting ICQ (because users on any IM service looks alike), but it's.. enough.
