Different people have different eating habits. Here in Holland (and in most of Europe), it's quite normal to buy fresh food on a regular basis. We eat less fastfood than "you Americans" (sorry for generalization). But to each his/her own. As long as you respect it and he respects your eating habits, there should be nothing you have to worry about.

Just a quick comment... I think a big reason Europeans purchase more fresh foods is because you have small grocers very close to your home. That isn't as common in the States due to how spread out we are. I can't stroll right outside my door and pick-up fruit for the day, you guys have that luxury.
As a single guy, I buy enough food to last 2-3 weeks typically, while many families do weekly grocery store runs.
