If you're truly type 2, you can control with diet and exercise. I was diagnosed in 2001 and I've been working on my diet ever since. I've had some luck and some problems.
Basically now I try to eat as many natural foods (read: not processed) as I can. Fruit, veggies, whole ingredients, whole grains, stay away from starches, white breads, white rice, sugar, sodas, juices, etc. So far my A1C has been under the "diabetic" level (under 7.0) with just diet for the last 2 years. My last A1C was a 5.9 which is "non-diabetic" but I had to work really hard to get there. I hope to lose more weight this year and make it easier for me to sneak in a splurge now and then.
