You want to make sure EACH AND EVERY ROOM has at least gigabit certified ethernet jacks. Always do 2 per room for future expansion. You could also do fiber, but that is really planning ahead. :-)

We recently finished building and I actually decided against doing this, because all my computer activity is centered around the office. My daughter is too young to be using the net (in fact she's unborn for a few more months
) but I had already decided that putting in ethernet wiring was going to make it too easy for our kid(s) to get unsupervised net access.
Of course in 13 years time she'll probably be hooking up with the latest wireless craze and daddy will have no idea.
