Unlike USA for example there are no real ghetto's in The Netherlands.
We sometimes like to think that "Bijlmer" is a ghetto but that is very relatively. You would probably call it a "bad neighbourhood" Diemen is near by Bijlmer but you can still walk through it without noticing any crime. In fact, I am from a city called Rotterdam and we have worse neighbourhoods. Diemen is laughed at as a boring community in these parts. So if you would have a firend living in Diemen you would not have to worry about your friend. If you plan on a visit to Amsterdam then dont stay in Diemen but choose something more near the center.
