Another contender. There are said to be a top 20 list out of the over 100 eligible candidates in total.
I read in today's paper there is also strong talk of them leaning towards restoring the position to an Italian, which has been the predominant tradition.
That article also quoted a Vatican official as saying no USA candidate would be considered, as they would not want the papacy held by someone from the "world's most powerful nation".
