The gum really worked for me. Other than that it was a combination of several things. Firstly, I kept myself out of situations where I knew I'd want to smoke. I ended up not drinking for about a month or two. Secondly, I would run around the block a couple of times a day just to get the 'nervous' energy out of my system. Last but not least to get over the gum, I would start taking my first piece of gum 15 minutes later and later on in the day .. eventually after several weeks, I didn't crave the gum until 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
