Depending on the force, some pieces would acquire an "escape velocity" and never be seen again.

You are assuming that the asteriods that hit earth today are not returning from an explosion on earth 50,000 years ago.
You have no proof of that.
Space has very little resistance; but don't assume that it has none at all and that an object will not slow down after 25,000 years and them be forced back into it's original space.
